1/5/2024 0 Comments Petsmart muzzle policyI made the mistake when I first got him of trying to wash him outdoors under the hose-he was highly stressed, hated the hose, and was very clear about trying to make it stop. No kidding! My rescue dog (the Aussie) used to get shaved once a year by his previous owners-they'd take him to the vet and he'd get doped up on valium and they'd groom him. I don't think they have very experienced groomers. Why go back there? If they made one mistake, they will make another. Weird that they would insist on a muzzle when we seem to have issues about muzzling doogs that need it. Anyway I often have groomers say I won't do a dog with a muzzle on so take it off ( I bring my own and put it on) I tell them if they accidently quick her she will snap maybe bite so I want her muzzled for everyones safety and they usually then say OK. I muzzle Jazz when she gets nails clipped and I do take her to a groomer as I can not do her alone with her black nails and her pulling her paw away it is a 2 man job. So she had the reverse problem of them not wanting the dog muzzled. Another groomer there told her next time to call and request her as she would not be afraid to groom the dog. She was bit in the hand in that web of skin between the thumb and finger.Īnyway My sister was expecting them to be mad while instead the manager was worried about what to charge her as they did not finish the grooming job so she ended up paying only a small amount. My sister was freaked out as they said the groomer was at the hospital which I am sure is their company policy that anyone bit no matter how minor gets seen by a doctor. They called my sister and told her the dog bit the groomer and to come get the dog. Well sometime during the grooming they took the muzzle off and yup she bit the groomer. My sister took her newly adopted dog to a Petco for grooming and warned them that she needed to stay muzzled as she does snap and was still very stressed out about her new home. At least we know they know him and won't mind doing that. If I choose another groomer, should I request them to muzzle him, or would that request make them turn me down completely?įor right now, we would take him to the vet and tell the vet to muzzle him. If this is indeed a policy, is it location specific to Petsmart, which means if I took it to another Petsmart and then ask them to muzzle, would they decline to groom him?ģ. For those that take their dogs to be groomed at your local Petsmart, is the policy to muzzle or not? Is the rabies certificate the only requirement not to muzzle?Ģ. I have a couple of questions for you folks here:ġ. I'm thinking that if they only missed one nail, it must not have been that the dog's paws were sensitive, or that my dog was aggresive but that they had cut the dog's quick too close, hurt him, and naturally he'd snap in reaction to the pain! They gave me this excuse about the dog not wanting his front paw (just one! ) touched. Needless to say, I was mortified at the event, but then upset at their whole policy of not muzzling the dog in the first place! We've only had his nails trimmed at the vet's and they have not said anything about the dog's paw being sensitive. Not only were we quickly ushered out of the area on to the register to have the refund processed, we were told that they cannot take my dog back there EVER for grooming since he bit. The reason they gave me was that the dog bit (attempted to bite, I don't know) the groomer in the face. When we returned to pick up the dog, they said that they were not able to cut one nail, and that they couldn't trim the paw hair so they would refund the extra $6 charge for that. When they got the rabies certificate, they printed out the receipt and asked us to pay at the register and come back after that, since the whole thing would not have taken more than 15 minutes. Since it was our first time at Petsmart for this service, they wanted his rabies certificate and specifically said that without it, they would have to muzzle the dog. Last Saturday, my daughter and I took our golden mix Max to our local Petsmart to get his nails clipped and his pads trimmed of hair.
